Step 5 Self- love
Self-love is quite an interesting step because loving yourself has often been thought about as being egotistical, narcissistic and why would anyone love themselves?
If you are a product of your environment, then you may struggle to love yourself probably because you didn’t receive a lot of kindness, compassion or affection as a child and therefore, as an adult you struggle to deliver that.
It’s vital to do this because it has an impact on our relationships and being a success is about being a team.
If you are in a team, then you are going to have to have healthy relationships so that you can get the best out of them. You need to be able to love yourself so that you can love others.
In the English language we only have one word for love but in the great language, there are many words for love. If you can love yourself, then you can deliver different types of love, the paternal love, family love and love for your children and co-workers.
It all starts within
Looking at the steps together now, you can see that we are looking at the person that is you and me, who we are, and then we will start looking externally.
This is the last of the internal steps. With self-love, it allows us really to enjoy relationships, the connection with ourselves and with others. Forgive and honour yourself. When you love yourself, you respect yourself. You’re devoted to yourself and your wellbeing.
Self-love means that we are devoted to ourselves and in turn, we are devoted to others.
In this step, I would like you just to take some time and think about what makes you feel loved. Then I would like you to reflect on how you could do that for yourself. I tend to find my quality time mine by sitting in a bar, listening to some sweet music.
When you do this for yourself, you recharge your energy and then you can pour out more love to others. Think now about what this is and then make a commitment to doing that just for you. Show yourself some love. By firstly loving yourself you can go and fly and love others.
